Differences Between LED Gold Wire, Copper Wire and Iron Wire
LED gold wire, copper wire and iron wire are core conductive materials for LED chips and packaging, differing significantly in conductivity, corrosion resistance, thermal stability, cost and application scenarios. Their key distinctions are as follows:
- LED Gold Wire (Au Wire)
Core Properties: Ultra-high electrical and thermal conductivity; excellent oxidation and corrosion resistance; good ductility and bonding performance (easy to weld with LED pins without brittle fracture); stable performance at high and low temperatures.
Advantages: Low signal loss, long service life of LED products, strong reliability, suitable for high-temperature packaging processes.
Disadvantages: Extremely high material cost (the most expensive among the three); low strength compared with metal wires of the same specification.
Application Scenarios: High-end LED products (e.g., automotive LEDs, medical device LEDs, high-brightness display screen LEDs, industrial-grade LED modules) with high requirements for stability and lifespan.
- LED Copper Wire (Cu Wire)
Core Properties: High conductivity (second only to gold wire, much higher than iron wire); good thermal conductivity; moderate ductility; easy to oxidize in high-temperature and humid environments (usually need electroplating coating such as silver/nickel for anti-oxidation).
Advantages: Low cost (far lower than gold wire); high mechanical strength; good current-carrying capacity.
Disadvantages: Poor anti-oxidation (uncoated copper wire is easy to rust and affect conductivity); welding process requirements are higher than gold wire (easy to produce cold joint).
Application Scenarios: Mid-to-high end civilian LED products (e.g., household LED lamps, commercial lighting LEDs, ordinary LED display screens) with balanced requirements for cost and performance; mainstream choice for LED packaging at present.
- LED Iron Wire (Fe Wire)
Core Properties: Low electrical and thermal conductivity (the worst among the three); poor ductility; easy to oxidize and rust (must be coated for anti-corrosion); high mechanical strength but brittle at low temperatures.
Advantages: Ultra-low material cost (the cheapest among the three); high hardness and wear resistance.
Disadvantages: Large signal transmission loss; poor thermal stability (easy to deform at high temperatures); low bonding reliability with LED chips; short service life of finished products.
Application Scenarios: Low-end LED products with the lowest cost requirements (e.g., disposable lighting LEDs, low-brightness indicator LEDs, cheap toy LED accessories); rarely used in formal industrial and civilian high-quality LED products.
