What Makes a Great Salesperson?

Many people think a great salesperson is measured by how much they sell today. I see it differently.
A truly great salesperson is measured by how many problems they solve for their customers.
Making a sale is only the beginning of a relationship, not the end of it. Real success comes from being there when your customer needs you the most. For example, if a customer's control card fails, and five years later they can still find you for repair or support, that is the true value of sales. It means they trust you, not just your product.
Trust cannot be built overnight. In my experience, it often takes two years or even longer to earn a customer's confidence. Trust is built through honesty, professional knowledge, reliable service, and keeping every promise you make.
Customers may forget your price, but they will always remember how you treated them when they had a problem.
The best salespeople don't simply sell products—they provide solutions, build long-term relationships, and become trusted partners.
At the end of the day, success in sales is not about today's sales figures. It's about how many customers are willing to come back to you years later because they know you will always help them.
